I can't tell you what I loved more . . . the incredibly romantic ceremony in Washington Square Park . . . the elegant and intimate reception at One if by Land, Two if by Sea . . . or the double decker bus ride through the West Village. This wedding was unique and adorably sweet every step of the way.
When Jonathan and Cristina first contacted me about photographing their wedding, it was going to take place at city hall with a small lunch to follow. I LOVE city hall weddings so I was totally excited. But when they changed their minds and decided to instead hold a ceremony in Washington Square Park followed by a full on Luncheon Reception at One if by Land, Two if by Sea, as I'm sure you can imagine, I was even more thrilled to be part of their day.
The park was COLD that Saturday morning. One of the first really cold days we've had in New York this year, but the sun was shining and everything looked gorgeous. The whole thing felt so classically New York, especially with a close friend of the couple playing saxophone as Cristina walked down the "aisle." After the ceremony we all walked to the restaurant and were greeted as we walked in by a trumpet player and a piano player. I thought the attention to more classic forms of music really set the tone for this event.
After the reception the couple and their guests loaded up into their own personal double decker city tour bus for a tour around the West Village. I've never taken one of those city tours. What a wonderful way to see the city you love so much. It was dusk, and the city was looking its prettiest and most festive with all the holiday decorations already up.
They ended their night on the third floor of 5 Ninth in the Meat Packing district. It was an intimate private "after party" complete with a pair of Columbian guitar players serenading us with Latin and Flamenco rhythms. It was such a unique and personal event, for such a sweet and loving couple. We wish all the best to Cristina and Jonathan and the start of their life together.
